Johannes Gammelgaards Orkester
/
Johannes Gammelgaard's Orchestra is an Aarhusian ensemble that presents a new generation of creative musicians from the city's experimental jazz scene. The orchestra's sound is characterized by the mix of vocals and brass backed by a solid rhythm section.

With their feet firmly planted in the Danish song treasure, the group goes on musical excursions, where influences from world music and spiritual jazz are mixed with inspiration from the contemporary Swedish jazz scene (Yun Kan 10, Julia Strzalek, Fire! Orchestra).
Catchy melodies are replaced by rousing bass passages and responsive improvisations and create a broad-spectrum musical expression.

The album consists of 7 tracks with music to poems by the Danish poet and designer Piet Hein. The poems touch on existential themes such as time, fate, the present and eternity, and are thus just as relevant today as when they were written in the 1940s.
